THE DAVIDSON GROUP Welcome to Spring Break  |
First let me say, the 2006 Spring Break in Acapulco, Mexico was
the most epic, unmatched, physically and mentally exhausting week
of my life. The group of 15 was a hand-picked, all-star team of
Davidson Football players (and Trags & Clayton) from all four class years.The hotel was the Playa Suites which we booked through StudentCity, a organization that specializes at ensuring spring breakers book the same hotels, go to all the best clubs and basically get as much out of their week as possible. The group mission statement was as followed:
"DOMINATE IN ALL ASPECTS, ALL WEEK"

It sounds more like a pre-game speech then a vacation pep-talk but
regardless it was effective. StudentCity helped us achieve the lofty
mission by promoting huge pool-side events that played right into our hands. Daily dance contests, drinking matches, weight lifting events and belly-flop exhibitions placed all eyes on the Davidson Group, and when all eyes were on us.....we excelled. With the entire hotel-full of spring breakers looking on, the group embarrassed students from small schools, medium schools and huge party schools (I'm looking at you University of Michigan) without thinking twice. Again, the word EPIC fits.

'DANCE WITH THE DEVIL' Rites of Spring (Break)  |
Some of the best memories of the week include the Palladium night club where we went three glorious nights (if you make it to 4:00am you will get your chance to "Dance with the Devil" -picture right), Baby'O and Disco Beach . Another would have to be Tacos & Beer which was a fine establishment on Acapulco's main strip that I am confident I ate at all 6 nights I was there.
The story to some-up this entire trip goes something like this, "on the second or third day the Davidson crew was at the pool, dominating, when we noticed a camera crew following around a younger gentlemen, conducting interviews and other such things. As TV enthusiasts we realized right away that it was MTV cameras following around 'Stephen' from the show Laguna Beach. Let me give you a taste of what we were dealing with...
So, at this time one of us said to our buddy Mathew 'I always want to impress people' McGreevey, "please spear tackle that douche into the pool." Without thinking twice Matt got out of the pool and disappeared into a crowd of people. About 2 minutes later, with the Davidson group looking on, 500 spring breaks in and/or around the pool, MTV cameras rolling and Stephen walking next to the pool; Matt emerged from a large crowd running full speed towards the douche, in a flash he was executing a perfect form tackle and picking-up and driving Stephen into the pool. They both hit the water with an enormous splash that sent the MTV star's cell phone and $500 sunglasses directly into the pool. After Stephen surfaced he immediately looked for his attacker (as was the MTV crew and about 15 Mexican Security Guards)...his attacker was no where to be found. When Matt hit the water, he stayed submerged, and proceeded to swim approximately 30 meters, underwater, through hundreds of people to the far side of the pool under the pool bar, where his Davidson brothers were waiting. Upon surfacing he asked (with the stupidest look on his face) "HEY GUYS, WAS THAT FUNNY??" Still in shock with what just happen all I could get out of my mouth was "uhhhhh YES, now you need to sneak to your room and wait about 2 hrs before coming back down."

When the week finally ended, I was exhausted and relieved it was over. You might ask "Why relieved?", well to have that much fun in one week is hard work, and not for the faint of heart. I could not have asked for a more memorable trip but I was happy to be flying back to my United States of America.
